What to Do About Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy?
Source: LelaiwaPublished: 2024-11-25

As childbearing age trends younger, more women face hypothyroidism in pregnancy (reduced thyroid function during gestation). The reported incidence in China is about 10%, so any woman of childbearing age may encounter it. How to cope:

1) Understand the cause: mainly hormonal changes in pregnancy affect thyroid function; higher iodine need means insufficient intake can trigger it—ensure adequate iodine. 2) Diagnosis and treatment: based mainly on blood TSH; treatment is usually taking thyroid hormone to keep TSH below 2.5 uIU/mL for fetal health. 3) Lifestyle: eat iodine-rich foods (kelp, seaweed), exercise moderately, keep regular rest, avoid over-fatigue, and maintain a good mood. 4) Regular rechecks: follow the doctor's advice for periodic tests to monitor thyroid function and adjust the plan.

In summary, face it with a positive attitude; with scientific treatment and self-care, most women pass pregnancy smoothly. China needs stronger prevention; women should keep balanced nutrition and iodine, watch their health, and see a doctor if abnormal. (More info: QR code or 181-0136-5219.)
